The stability of the rupiah exchange rate remains a significant challenge for Bank Indonesia (BI) heading into 2027. High levels of global uncertainty are expected to drive the exchange rate within the range of Rp17,300 to Rp17,800 per US dollar.

“In 2027, the rupiah is expected to be in a strengthening trend within the range of 17,300 to 17,800,” stated BI Governor Destry Damayanti during a working meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Exchange rate stability will be supported by the implementation of a single-door export policy and the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) regarding Natural Resource Export Proceeds (DHE SDA). These measures are expected to increase foreign exchange and state revenue, while simultaneously strengthening foreign exchange reserves and the rupiah’s value.

Bank Indonesia will also undertake foreign exchange interventions, interest rate policies, hedging, deepening of money and foreign exchange markets, as well as the management of liquidity and foreign exchange reserves.

Destry added that the strengthening of coordination between fiscal and monetary policies is directed towards maintaining macroeconomic stability, increasing the attractiveness of investment and foreign portfolios, and ensuring adequate liquidity in the money and banking markets.

“Furthermore, Bank Indonesia will continue to strengthen supervision of banks and corporations exhibiting high US dollar purchasing activities, through coordination with the OJK, and by strengthening foreign exchange transaction reporting requirements,” she explained.
