Bank Indonesia Reveals Reason Behind Perry Warjiyo's Resignation as Governor

Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo has resigned from his position, submitting a formal letter to President Prabowo on Sunday, 26 July 2026. The position will temporarily be filled by BI Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, who will serve as acting governor in accordance with the Bank Indonesia Law. During a press conference at the BI building in Jakarta, Destry stated that the resignation was voluntary and due to personal reasons. ‘The resignation of Mr Perry Warjiyo from the position of BI Governor was voluntary, due to personal reasons on 25 July 2026,’ Destry said on Monday, 27 July 2026. She did not elaborate further on the specific personal reasons behind the decision. Destry noted that the follow-up to Perry Warjiyo’s resignation refers to Article 48 paragraph 1 (a) of Law 23 of 1999 concerning Bank Indonesia, as amended several times, most recently by Law 4 of 2026 concerning the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. ‘The Board of Governors, in a meeting on 26 July 2026, appointed the Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti as acting Governor,’ she said. The resignation was previously announced by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, who confirmed the government had officially received the resignation letter. He assured that the government would promptly follow up by issuing a presidential decree.
