The Papua Provincial Representative Office of Bank Indonesia has recorded that 54 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Papua have successfully entered or been onboarded to various e-commerce platforms during the period from 2020 to 2025.

Acting Head of the Bank Indonesia Papua Provincial Representative Office, David Sipahutar, in Jayapura on Saturday, said the move is part of efforts to expand market access for Papua’s MSMEs through the use of digital technology.

“The Papua MSMEs that passed the onboarding process to various e-commerce platforms operate in a number of business sectors, including crafts and fashion, food and beverages, and coffee,” he said.

According to David, digitalisation is one of the important strategies for improving the competitiveness of MSMEs, especially in expanding marketing reach that does not rely solely on conventional markets.

“For this reason, the e-commerce onboarding programme is being continued, and in 2026 we are involving 50 new MSMEs operating in the crafts and fashion, food and beverages, and coffee sectors as well,” he said.

He explained that the programme will continue to be carried out by involving new MSME participants so that more business actors in Papua can take advantage of the digital ecosystem.

“The presence of Papua’s MSMEs on digital platforms is expected to open up wider market opportunities while encouraging business actors to improve product quality, packaging, and business management,” he said.

He added that in addition to e-commerce, Bank Indonesia is also encouraging the digitalisation of MSMEs through the expansion of QRIS usage and the implementation of digital farming for assisted farmer groups.

“Digital transformation needs to be carried out sustainably by involving various parties, so that Papua’s MSMEs are not only able to enter the digital ecosystem, but also grow and move up a class,” he said.
