Bank Indonesia Provides New Currency Exchange Service at Two Stations in Semarang
Semarang — Bank Indonesia is providing a new currency exchange service specifically for train passengers at two stations in Semarang, Central Java.
Luqman Arif, Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 4 Semarang, stated on Thursday in Semarang that the currency exchange service will be conducted on 13 March 2026 at Semarang Tawang Station and Poncol Station.
“Located in zone 2 of the stations, it will be open from 09:00 to 11:30 WIB,” he said.
He noted that the new currency exchange service is exclusively for long-distance train passengers who already hold travel tickets in accordance with their valid identification.
He stated that one national identity number can only perform the exchange once and cannot be done through a proxy.
He added that the currency exchange can only be conducted whilst the quota is still available.
“The maximum exchange is 5.3 million rupiah with the denominations already provided by Bank Indonesia,” he said.
He expressed hope that the new currency exchange service can provide convenience and benefits for train passengers who will be travelling home for the holidays, so that preparations for welcoming Eid can be carried out more effectively.
Furthermore, according to him, the convenience for these customers is also expected to increase public interest in using trains as a choice of safe, comfortable and punctual transportation.
