Bank Indonesia Promotes North Kalimantan Textiles through Benuanta Fashion Showcase
Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI), together with the Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda) of North Kalimantan Province, has utilised the Benuanta Fashion Showcase as a promotional platform for North Kalimantan’s traditional textiles (wastra).
“The Benuanta Fashion Showcase is part of the 2026 Benuanta Creative Works (KKB) series, aimed at preserving, developing, and introducing North Kalimantan’s signature textiles as an identity and pride of Benuanta,” said the Head of the BI Representative Office for North Kalimantan, Agus Taufik, in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan, on Sunday.
Agus Taufik stated that the Benuanta Fashion Showcase, held on Saturday night (29/8) at the Bundayati Botanical Garden, Tanjung Selor, marks the culmination of Fashion Design and Sewing Coaching for aspiring young fashion designers from North Kalimantan, involving students from Vocational (SMK) and Senior High Schools (SMA).
“As a closing to this series, we witnessed the beauty and richness of North Kalimantan textiles elegantly presented in a fashion show. The event featured the best works from the high school fashion design competition, alongside special performances by the leaders of Dekranasda, Dharma Wanita across North Kalimantan, and the association of Bank Indonesia employees’ wives,” he said.
The Vice Chairperson of the North Kalimantan Provincial Dekranasda, Kornie Serliany Ingkong Ala, expressed appreciation to BI North Kalimantan for organising the Benuanta Fashion Showcase as part of the 2026 KKB series, aligned with design competitions and training for students.
“BI is not only capable of maintaining monetary stability but is also strongly committed to driving inclusive and sustainable regional economic growth through the development of MSMEs and the strengthening of the creative, fashion, and local craft industry ecosystems,” said Kornie.
She emphasised that this collaboration is a tangible manifestation of a shared commitment to nurturing talented young designers from the Benuanta region who are ready to strengthen the regional fashion industry supply chain in North Kalimantan Province.
“The fashion industry today is not just about clothing, but also about identity, cultural values, and pride in the products created by our own people,” she added.
“You are the face of the future of North Kalimantan’s fashion industry. Never feel inferior or hesitant; the fashion world today highly appreciates the uniqueness of local stories and the authenticity of regional wisdom,” Kornie said.
“Use this event as a stepping stone to hone your competence and prove that the works of North Kalimantan students are capable of reaching national and even international fashion exhibition stages,” she added.
During the Benuanta Fashion Showcase, all leaders of Dekranasda and Dharma Wanita Persatuan across North Kalimantan participated, modelling North Kalimantan textiles with professional flair on the 2026 KKB stage.
