Bank Indonesia Lowers Cash Dollar Purchase Limit to US$10,000 per Month

Jakarta - Bank Indonesia (BI) has again lowered the threshold for purchasing foreign currency in cash without collateral or underlying documentation. Previously, BI had reduced the dollar purchase limit to US$25,000 per person per month. However, it has now been cut to US$10,000 per person per month. This was announced directly by Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo following the board of governors’ meeting for the June 2026 period. “The implementation of the reduction in the threshold for cash foreign exchange purchases against the rupiah without underlying becomes US$10,000 per actor per month,” Perry said during an online press conference on Thursday (18/6/2026). Perry stressed that this policy will effectively come into force on 1 July 2026. This is in line with strengthening prudential principles in foreign exchange traffic reporting through adjusting the threshold for supporting document obligations for fund transfers abroad in foreign currency from the equivalent of US$50,000 to the equivalent of US$25,000. “This will also take effect on 1 July 2026,” Perry explained.
