Bank Indonesia (BI), together with the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI), has launched the Indonesian Credit Card (KKI) for the retail segment or the general public as an alternative domestic deferred payment instrument.

Acting Governor of BI Destry Damayanti said the implementation of KKI serves as an alternative domestic payment instrument that is efficient, prudent, and integrated with the national payment system infrastructure.

“The presence of this domestic scheme provides broader space for businesses to enter the digital ecosystem and offers an alternative credit facility to support public consumption,” said Destry in Jakarta on Monday.

Previously, KKI was only issued for the government segment, intended for central and regional government work units to support government spending transactions.

Now, KKI can be used by individuals and corporations, both for conventional and sharia services, in accordance with the products provided by the issuing payment service providers (PJP).

KKI was developed by BI together with ASPI, supported by the Indonesian Credit Card Association (AKKI), issuing PJPs, and payment system infrastructure providers (PIP).

Head of BI’s Payment System Policy Department Ryan Rizaldy explained that KKI is being developed in stages.

For the initial phase, KKI is available in the form of a digital card and can be used as a source of funds for transactions through the QRIS ecosystem, namely QRIS Merchant Presented Mode (MPM), QRIS Customer Presented Mode (CPM), and QRIS TAP.

Furthermore, KKI will be developed gradually to facilitate online transactions through online payment as well as offline transactions using a physical card.

“In the initial phase, namely today, 17 August 2026, the Indonesian Credit Card is issued in the form of a digital card as a source of funds for QRIS transactions. Transactions can be made with QRIS Scan or QRIS Tap,” said Rizaldy.

In the initial implementation phase, there are seven first-mover PJP issuers of KKI, including BCA, Bank Mandiri, BNI, BRI, CIMB Niaga, Permata Bank, and Bank Mega, as well as one next-mover PJP, namely BSI.

Rizaldy said BI continues to encourage increased transaction efficiency, expansion of digital payment access, and the provision of increasingly diverse domestic payment instruments.

This is intended to provide greater space for the public to transact safely, easily, and efficiently, while strengthening national economic activity.

This step is in line with the Indonesian Payment System Blueprint (BSPI) 2030 and the government’s Asta Cita vision in strengthening the role of the payment system as a driver of inclusive, efficient, and sustainable economic growth.
