Bank Indonesia destroys counterfeit Rupiah banknotes in Palu

Bank Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi office said around 5,000 counterfeit notes in physical form dating from 2014 to 2025 were destroyed, including notes received by BI itself and those reported in police seizures. The shredded remnants were placed into plastic bags for disposal. The event underscores BI’s ongoing efforts to curb the circulation of counterfeit currency.
