Bank guard killed in robbery attempt
JAKARTA (JP): A security guard of Bank Internasional Indonesia's (BII) Mampang Prapatan branch in South Jakarta was found dead on Sunday morning with his legs and hands bound together.
The victim, Susanto Sarwin, 32, was discovered in the office's restroom at 8 a.m.
South Jakarta police sent the body to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for a postmortem examination soon after they arrived on the scene.
"We believe Susanto fell victim to a robbery attempt as evidenced by the condition of the scene of the crime," Capt. Rycko A Daniel, head of the South Jakarta detectives unit, was quoted by Antara as saying.
Contusions were found on the victim's neck, Rycko added.
Police are still investigating the case.
The robbers reportedly tried to steal money from the branch's deposit boxes.
Maj. Sudjatmo, head of Mampang Prapatan Police station, said he believed more than three burglars had been involved in the attempt.
"We also believe that the robbery attempt was conducted by people familiar with the office," he said, adding that three security guards had been questioned as of yesterday to help uncover the incident. (hhr)
