PT Bank Syariah Nasional (Bank BSN) is boosting national housing finance performance with the launch of its ‘BSN Siap KPR’ initiative. The programme is designed to widen access to housing finance, particularly for low-income communities (MBR) in the informal sector.

Bank BSN President Director Alex Sofjan Noor revealed that in 2026 the bank secured a quota of 73,700 subsidised mortgage units. This represents an increase of around 34.8 per cent compared with the previous year’s realisation of 54,700 units.

“The housing sector is one of BSN’s core strengths and identities. This year’s quota of 73,700 units reflects the great responsibility and, at the same time, the trust placed in BSN to support the national housing programme,” Alex said at the launch of the BSN Siap KPR programme in Jakarta on Friday, 24 July 2026.

Alex explained that the main obstacle for MBR communities in accessing mortgages is not an inability to pay instalments, but rather the lack of a sufficient track record to prove their repayment capacity. Through the BSN Siap KPR programme, prospective borrowers are therefore guided to save regularly for a period of three to six months via the bank’s digital application, in order to build a banking transaction track record and financial literacy.

By the end of 2026, Bank BSN is targeting a specific goal for the new programme. “By the end of 2026, we aim for the BSN Siap KPR programme to reach 1,000 prospective customers from participating developer partners. One thousand prospective customers is not just a business figure — behind it are a thousand families striving to get closer to their dream of owning a home,” Alex asserted.

Alex added that this savings-based education strategy is highly strategic given the vast untapped MBR market that remains unserved by banking. As of June 2026, Bank BSN had already achieved overall mortgage financing realisation of 82 per cent of the company’s annual target. The breakthrough initiative has drawn appreciation from the regulator and housing ecosystem stakeholders.

Sri Hartati, Director General of Urban Housing at the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), considered the company’s education scheme capable of addressing the challenge of the national homeownership backlog, which currently stands at 9.97 million households according to data from Statistics Indonesia’s (BPS) National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas).
