Cirebon — PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Barat dan Banten Tbk, or Bank BJB, has targeted fishing communities in Cirebon District, West Java, for a financial literacy and inclusion programme aimed at strengthening the financial management capacity of coastal communities.

“The programme is being implemented through a financial education initiative titled Bahari Tangguh, Ekonomi Maju (Resilient Ocean, Thriving Economy), which was held at Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih in Gebang Mekar Village on 2 March 2026,” said Corporate Secretary of Bank BJB Herfinia in a statement in Cirebon.

She explained that the activity is part of the bank’s efforts to broaden the understanding of fishing communities regarding healthy and planned financial management.

According to her, improved financial literacy is important so that growth in the real sector in the fisheries region can proceed in line with strengthening the economic foundation of fishing families.

Gebang Mekar Village, she noted, is an area included in the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (Red and White Fishing Village) programme established by the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.

She stated that the area has a substantial number of active fishing households, predominantly engaged in capture fisheries, and thus plays a strategic role in supporting the coastal economy of Cirebon District.

“Given this potential, Bank BJB recognises that the fishing sector needs to be encouraged not only from the production side, but also from the perspective of income management and family financial planning,” she said.

She noted that in the activity, Bank BJB was present alongside several stakeholders, including the Financial Services Authority in Cirebon, members of the House of Representatives Commission XI, and the Cirebon District Government.
