Bank Bali's case tip of the iceberg
Bank Bali's case tip of the iceberg
From Media Indonesia
Having observed the Bank Bali case since its disclosure by Mr.
Pradjoto, we from the Sekar Tiara non-governmental organization
feel called upon to convey our support and admiration for all his
efforts.
In our opinion the Bank Bali case is only the tip of the
iceberg of many decaying economic pillars in Indonesia of the New
Order regime.
It is still fresh in our minds that social safety network
funds to alleviate poverty did not reach those to whom the funds
were addressed.
Our NGO has observed that in the context of restoring the
rural community's economic situation, many government programs as
well as direct aid from donor institutions have been
misappropriated by both the central and the regional bureaucracy.
For this reason we appeal to fellow NGOs all over Indonesia to
try to collect more data and submit it to the proper institutes
so that all forms of irregularities affecting the people's
sufferings can be terminated.
With regard to Bank Bali, we are convinced that there are many
more cases in national banking which have not yet been disclosed
in a transparent way. This impacts enormously on the national
banking recapitalization program and will finally make it harder
for the already strapped Indonesian economy to recover.
Especially in regards to Mr. Pradjoto, whom we have known for
more than 15 years, we trust that "Pradjoto will remain the same
man we have known and will always be committed to justice". We
strongly believe that he will maintain his fight against
injustices. He must be convinced that God will protect him and
his family in ways we will never come to know.
Good luck! Even with our limitations we are ready to help him
in whatever way we can.
