Banjarmasin inmate commits suicide
BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Turadi, a 20-year-old inmate serving an 18-month jail term, committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell at Palaihari Penitentiary in Tanah Laut regency, 65 kilometers from Banjarmasin.
Chief prison warden Sudarto confirmed the death of Turadi, who was convicted of violent theft in Banjarmasin. He said the dead prisoner would have served out his jail sentence next month.
Sudarto said that when a warden found Turaji with a piece of rope tied around his neck at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, he was rushed to Boeyasin hospital, but doctors failed to save his life.
Sudarto could not comment on why Suraji committed suicide, but he believed the victim was mentally distressed.--Antara
