Banjarmasin Hajj Embarkation PPIH on Alert for Dengue Transmission in Hajj Dormitory
Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The Hajj Organising Committee (PPIH) at Banjarmasin Embarkation is on alert for the transmission of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DBD) among prospective Hajj pilgrims in the Hajj dormitory in Banjarbaru City, thus conducting fogging operations in the said environment in cooperation with the Banjarmasin Health Quarantine Agency.
PPIH Embarkation Banjarmasin Chairman Eddy Khairani in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Wednesday, stated that the fogging was carried out comprehensively, covering pilgrims’ rooms, halls, dining areas, waiting rooms, and open spaces in the dormitory complex.
This effort is focused on controlling disease vectors, particularly mosquitoes that have the potential to transmit diseases such as DBD and other environment-based illnesses.
He said the fogging is part of a series of thorough preparations ahead of the arrival of prospective Hajj pilgrims, scheduled for batch 1 to enter the dormitory on Thursday (23/4).
He explained that environmental readiness is an important factor in supporting the health of pilgrims during their stay at the embarkation before being sent to the Holy Land.
“We are conducting this fogging to ensure that the entire Hajj dormitory area is in sterile and safe condition from potential disease spread. This is a form of our commitment to providing maximum health protection to the pilgrims,” Eddy stated.
Therefore, various preventive measures continue to be carried out in an integrated manner involving various related parties.
In addition to fogging, PPIH Embarkation Banjarmasin, together with the Health Quarantine Agency, conducts environmental sanitation monitoring, clean water quality checks, and ensures the cleanliness of all facilities to be used by the pilgrims.
Health service readiness is also a serious concern. They have prepared medical personnel, health examination facilities, and a referral system to anticipate if any pilgrim members require further treatment.
He urged all Hajj officials to maintain environmental cleanliness and provide education to pilgrims on the importance of clean and healthy living habits while in the dormitory.
“With these thorough preparations, we hope that the entire Hajj operational process at Banjarmasin Embarkation can run smoothly, and the pilgrims can depart in healthy condition and ready to perform worship in the Holy Land,” he said.
In 2026, Banjarmasin Embarkation will dispatch pilgrims in 19 batches, namely 14 batches from South Kalimantan and five batches from Central Kalimantan. The total number of prospective pilgrims is 6,822.
