Banjarbaru to Transform Aerocity into New Economic Growth Hub
The Banjarbaru City Government in South Kalimantan has designated the area surrounding Syamsudin Noor Airport as one of its new growth centres through the Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR) for the Aerocity Planning Area 2026-2046.
The development of the 7,219.99-hectare area, which covers parts of the Landasan Ulin and Liang Anggang districts, is designed to sustainably integrate transport functions, business hubs, and residential zones.
M Maulana, Secretary of the Banjarbog City Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR), stated on Friday that the presence of Syamsudin Noor Airport serves as a primary driver to stimulate investment and mobilise growth within the Aerocity region.
“This Aerocity area positions Syamsudin Noor Airport as the epicentre of growth, which is expected to attract investment and drive the development of the surrounding areas,” he said.
According to Maulana, the RDTR will serve not only as a guideline for spatial utilisation but also provide certainty regarding the long-term direction of regional development, ensuring more targeted expansion.
The Aerocity area is also intended to become the Central Business District (CBD) of Banjarbaru, supported by a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept that connects activity centres with various modes of transport.
“Its development will be supported by the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept, bolstered by the airport, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and planned railway networks,” he added.
Currently, the Aerocity RDTR is in the process of being integrated into the Online Single Submission (OSS) system, with guidance from the Ministry of ATR/BPN and the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM to support certainty and ease in the investment licensing process.
This integration is expected to make spatial utilisation and business licensing processes clearer, while encouraging entrepreneurs to capitalise on development opportunities within the spatial plan, which extends until 2046.
“Particularly in the area surrounding the airport, with the support of all parties, we are confident that Aerocity will develop into a transport hub, a new economic centre, and a sustainable and comfortable residential area,” he said.
The Banjarbaru City Government is strengthening the implementation of the RDTR through the socialisation of Banjarbaru Mayor Regulation Number 20 of 2026 to stakeholders, involving 36 participants, as a step towards aligning the understanding of the Aerocity development direction.
