Bangli, Bali - The Regent of Bangli, Bali, Sang Nyoman Sedana Arta, has emphasised the importance of integrating business permit issuance with social security through BPJS Employment to protect the workforce, including vulnerable categories. “When people apply for permits, their workers must already be registered with BPJS. Permits cannot be issued without a clear commitment to participation,” said Sedana Arta during a coordination meeting on workforce protection in Bangli, Bali, on Tuesday. The Regent of Bangli instructed the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) to act more progressively, making the permitting system the primary gateway for enforcing social security. To support these efforts, the Regent assigned specific tasks to three main agencies: the Cooperative and Labour Agency to focus on validating independent worker participation; the Social Agency to ensure social contribution aid reaches the right targets without misallocation; and the Public Works Agency (PU) to guarantee that every construction project protects its workers with social security. The Regent of Bangli also highlighted the low rate of independent participation in the area compared to neighbouring regencies. To address this, he urged economically capable residents to stop relying on free schemes through the contribution aid recipient programme (PBI). “If able, they must be independent. We want to change mindsets so that government aid truly reaches those most deserving,” the Regent added. On the same occasion, the Head of the BPJS Employment East Bali Branch, Venina, expressed appreciation to the Bangli Regency Government for showing support to small communities despite limited budgets. She explained that a total of 1,473 vulnerable workers are being assisted with their contribution payments by the Bangli Regency Government. In addition to funding from the Regency budget, the Bali Provincial Government is providing additional support of Rp4 billion to expand social security coverage in the cool-climate regency. Venina emphasised that the state’s presence through BPJS Employment is crucial in the event of work risks. Key benefits of the Work Accident Insurance Programme (JKK) include fully covered medical costs without ceiling limits until full recovery; temporary incapacity benefits (STMB) replacing wages at 100 per cent for one year for workers undergoing treatment; and economic resilience by ensuring worker families have financial support even if the breadwinner temporarily loses productivity.
