Bangladeshi art makes it to Sotheby's
DHAKA (AFP): Two leading Bangladeshi artists' works are set to
go under the hammer at Sotheby's for the first time, a newspaper
has reported.
Three works by national artist Zainul Abedin, famed for his
work on the subcontinent's famine in the 1940s, and Mohammad
Kibria, regarded as the initiator of abstract art in Bangladesh,
were to be auctioned in London, the Daily Star reported in June.
A 1943 ink and brush sketch titled Famine by Abedin is
expected to be of particular interest, while the other is a study
of water color by Abedin called Boat.
A number of Bangladeshi artists have exhibited their works
across the world, including the late Sheikh Mohammad Sultan, who
had his works displayed in London alongside those of Pablo
Picasso and Salvador Dali.
