Bangkok targets polluting cars
BANGKOK (AFP): Bangkok officials are daubing red paint over
cars and buses which give out black exhaust fumes in an effort to
tackle the city's worsening pollution, a newspaper said
yesterday.
At a checkpoint set up in the city Wednesday officials from
the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration monitored exhaust fumes
from passing vehicles.
Black exhaust offenders had a notice painted on their
windscreens, reading "Not allowed to be used," The Nation daily
said.
The cars must then be kept off the road until the exhaust is
repaired, or they face fines. The paper did not specify the size
of the fines.
