Bangkok Bank quits Jakarta
BANGKOK (Reuters): Bangkok Bank Plc. said yesterday it had suspended banking operation in Jakarta due to spreading riots.
A Bangkok Bank executive said his bank had informed Indonesian and Thai central bank authorities of what he called a temporary business suspension in Jakarta until anti-government protests in the Indonesian capital ease.
Bangkok Bank, Thailand's largest bank, has a full branch and a sub branch in Jakarta.
"The spreading riots there moved closer to our branches and the suspension was made as a precaution," the bank official said.
