Bangka's Electricity Reserve Grows as PLN Commissions New 25 MW Power Plant

State electricity company PT PLN (Persero) through its Dwipantara Generation Unit has added 25 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity to strengthen the reliability of the power system on Bangka Island. The additional capacity increases the system’s power reserve amid growing electricity demand in the region.

General Manager of PLN UIK Dwipantara Rita Triani said the additional generating capacity consists of 15 MW in Air Anyir and 10 MW in Merawang, Bangka Regency.

“The presence of this additional generating capacity is expected to strengthen the operating reserve of the Bangka electricity system,” Rita said in a written statement on Monday (6/7/2026).

Rita said the additional plants will enhance PLN’s ability to anticipate growth in electricity demand while maintaining supply reliability for customers.

“Sufficient and reliable electricity is a crucial foundation for economic growth and improving public welfare. Therefore, PLN UIK Dwipantara continues to strengthen the generation system to meet the growing energy needs in Bangka,” Rita stated.

With the additional plants, the Bangka power system now has a supply capability of approximately 340 MW. This supply comes from power plants in Bangka totalling 240 MW and electricity transferred from the Sumatra system via submarine cable amounting to 100 MW.

Meanwhile, the peak load of the Bangka electricity system currently reaches around 240 MW. Under these conditions, a power reserve of approximately 100 MW is available to maintain supply reliability.

Rita said the additional generating capacity is expected to support adequate electricity supply while bolstering economic activity in Bangka.

“We hope that the additional generating capacity we manage can play an important role in maintaining electricity adequacy in Bangka, while supporting the increasing demand for electricity which will certainly accelerate regional economic growth,” Rita said.
