Bangkalan DPRD Member Smiles as His Own Child Takes to the Demonstration

Several members of the Bangkalan Regional House of Representatives turned up at a student demonstration in front of the Bangkalan DPRD building. One member was being demonstrated by his own biological son, causing him to struggle to hold back a smile as he watched his son address the crowd.

According to detikJatim, on Friday 22 May 2026, a circulating video shows a student standing on a sound-system truck delivering a speech. Meanwhile, a council member wearing turmeric-yellow clothing is seen smiling, trying not to laugh upon learning that the orator is his son.

‘If I’m not mistaken, the demonstration was on Monday (18 May). At that time I accompanied the protesters behind the chair of the Bangkalan DPRD. But I didn’t know my son would be speaking,’ said Mohammad Syukur, a Bangkalan DPRD member from the NasDem Party, to detikJatim on Friday 22 May.

Initially, Syukur did not realise that one of the speakers at the protest was his son. Syukur only found out after his son climbed onto the sound-system truck to address the crowd.

The atmosphere grew livelier when other students learned of the moment. Syukur admitted that he was briefly the target of banter from his fellow DPRD members before he finally chose to enter the building.

‘Indeed I could not help but smile because of the jokes from my fellow members. I even chose to go inside so as not to disrupt my son’s concentration as he spoke,’ he said.
