Bandung's Husein Sastranegara Airport to Reopen Next Month
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has confirmed that Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung City, West Java, will become active again. The airport will serve both domestic and international flights.
Dudy said the decision was taken following joint discussions. Husein Sastranegara Airport will be operated by state-owned enterprise PT Angkasa Pura.
“The central government, together with the regional government, has agreed to reactivate Husein Airport to serve flights,” he said in Bandung on Wednesday (22/7).
The Ministry of Transportation has issued permits for around 20–24 domestic flight routes that will operate at the airport. Beyond domestic routes, he also responded to the regional government’s request regarding international flight operations.
“As requested by the regional government, we will grant permits for regional international flights,” he said.
Regarding the operational schedule of Husein Sastranegara Airport, Dudy confirmed that the planned opening will be brought forward from the original September date to August.
Dudy emphasised the importance of comprehensive infrastructure readiness before Husein Sastranegara Airport is truly opened to the public. He said this step is the top priority to guarantee safety and security for all aviation service users at the airport.
“We want to ensure that before operations begin — planned for August, if I’m not mistaken, brought forward from September — Husein’s infrastructure is truly ready to serve both domestic and regional international flights. So we must be absolutely certain, for the sake of the safety and security of Husein Airport’s users,” he said.
At the same event, Mayor of Bandung Muhammad Farhan confirmed that supporting infrastructure around Husein Sastranegara Airport has been improved. He said his side had been tasked with improving the area surrounding the airport.
“We have been assigned to improve the surrounding infrastructure. As for preparations from Bandung City’s side, the Governor’s message was to maintain cleanliness and beauty. So that when people leave the airport, they feel pleased,” he said.
He cited the access road leading to Husein Sastranegara Airport as having been repaired.
“There are several additions we plan to build, including the Husein gate, and the Pasteur toll gate will also be slightly modified,” he said.
