Bandung's Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base Supports Airport Reactivation Plan

Bandung - The Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base in West Java has expressed support for the government’s plan to reactivate Husein Sastranegara Airport for large-scale commercial flights. Commander of the Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base, Air Marshal M.D. Irman Fathurrahman, stated in Bandung on Monday: “We at the Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base welcome all positive initiatives for the advancement of Bandung and West Java. Regarding readiness, we are prepared to operate whenever the airport reopens.” Irman confirmed the airport’s infrastructure remains capable of handling medium-sized commercial jet operations should the government reopen commercial flight routes. He added that all aviation facilities and infrastructure are currently ready for use, including for aircraft such as Boeing and Airbus models. According to him, the resumption of commercial flights at Husein Airport depends on a decision from the central government via the Ministry of Transportation, which would then be communicated to the Indonesian Air Force. “It depends on the leadership’s orders. If there is an official directive from the Ministry of Transportation relayed through the Air Force, then the Air Force will be ready,” he said. Irman added there are no significant obstacles regarding flight facilities, but improvements to urban planning and access to the airport area are needed.
