Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan has revealed that the restructuring and management process for Bandung Zoo is now entering a crucial phase. The Bandung City Government is opening opportunities for collaboration with dozens of legally established conservation institutions. A total of 85 conservation institutions have been invited to participate in the selection process for the utilisation and management of the zoo. Farhan stated that this process is not conducted haphazardly, as it involves oversight from various levels of government, from central to city. “The process is directly supervised by the central government, provincial government, and city government,” Farhan said at the Bandung City Hall on Monday (13/4/2026). In addition, public participation is an important part of this process. Various inputs from the public continue to be received by the Bandung City Government as a form of transparency and encouragement to deliver better management. Farhan noted that the high public attention and interest from international conservation institutions serve as positive signals for the zoo’s future. “This becomes our motivation to form good management that meets international standards.” From the 85 institutions that registered, a rigorous selection process will be conducted. Not all participants will pass, as they must meet a number of general and specific requirements, particularly regarding reputation and conservation management capabilities. “The key is that they must have a very good reputation,” he explained. He targets that this selection process will begin to narrow down by the end of April 2026. The Bandung City Government does not set specific preferences but will adhere to the professional criteria and standards that have been determined. Furthermore, the investment opportunities in managing Bandung Zoo are considered substantial. Farhan estimates the investment value could exceed Rp 50 billion in the first two years. “This means it must be managed by an institution with strong capacity,” he stated.
