The Bandung city government has officially appointed PT Faunaland Ancol as the operator of the Bandung Zoo following a tender process. The selection process was conducted openly, professionally, and accountably. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan expressed appreciation for the selection committee, which carried out all stages of the tender meticulously and professionally. He also conveyed his gratitude to the Ministry of Forestry for its support, assistance, and attention to Bandung Zoo. “We express our appreciation to the selection committee, which has worked professionally and with great care. We also thank the Ministry of Forestry, which has continually provided support and assistance so that this process could run well while keeping the conservation function as the top priority,” he said in an official statement on Wednesday (10/6/2026). He stated that during the selection process, his administration prioritised the conservation function, animal welfare, and public interest for the management of Bandung Zoo. Therefore, he hopes the new operator can deliver increasingly better and more responsible management standards. He mentioned that a transition period will soon begin to prepare for area revitalisation, strengthening the conservation function, and improving animal welfare, as well as preparations for the reopening of Bandung Zoo to the public. Farhan said the selected operator must pay an initial contribution of IDR 4.3 billion. Meanwhile, Faunaland CEO Danny Gunalen said the trust placed in Faunaland is a significant responsibility to develop Bandung Zoo. The existence of Bandung Zoo as a conservation institution must be able to provide benefits for animals, the environment, and the community. “For us, Bandung Zoo is not just a tourist destination. Bandung Zoo is a home for animals as well as a means to build public awareness about the importance of conservation,” he said.
