The West Java Regional Police have formed a special cross-directorate criminal investigation team to probe the case of confinement and severe abuse against a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency. This step was taken because the police suspect the involvement of other criminal elements strongly linked to the main suspect, identified by the initials TH.

West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan conveyed this after visiting YTR at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung on Tuesday (23/6). He explained that the handling of this case is receiving full attention from his office.

The joint team was deliberately established due to the suspect’s track record, which is believed to be connected to various other criminal offences beyond the severe abuse.

“This team is a combination of all criminal investigation directorates within the West Java Police because we see the spectrum is quite broad. We have many suspicions that they (the suspects) are involved in various other criminal acts,” said Rudi.

Rudi outlined the division of tasks for this special team, which is moving simultaneously across several lines. A narcotics task force will be deployed to detect and trace the suspect’s potential involvement in illicit drug trafficking networks. A cyber team will delve into the suspect’s digital footprint.

Furthermore, the West Java Police have established international cooperation with Meta, the social media platform manager, to track the perpetrator’s whereabouts. “There is also a general and special crimes team to handle the main case of severe abuse, confinement, as well as potential corporate crime or extortion related to the suspect’s past profession,” he stated.

In addition to focusing on hunting down TH, who has now been officially placed on the wanted persons list (DPO), the West Java Police are also paying significant attention to witness protection and victim recovery. Rudi assured that the police will not give any room for perpetrators of violence within the jurisdiction of West Java.

“The West Java Police are not acting alone; we have been cooperating with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to protect witnesses. So, the witnesses are now under the protection of an official institution to safeguard their privacy and security,” said Rudi.
