The Bandung City Government intends to develop Bandung Square into an integrated historical area through the Historic Urban Landscape concept. The goal is to enable the public to gain a deeper understanding of the various historical aspects of Bandung.

The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, stated that the management of historical areas has previously been conducted in isolation. He noted that the government, business actors, communities, and building owners each have their own interests, which has prevented an integrated management concept for the area.

“Until now, the government has acted alone, the private sector has acted alone, and communities have acted alone. As a result, these beautiful elements are not integrated into a single cohesive area,” he said on Wednesday (7/10/2026).

He explained that this new concept will serve as the foundation for uniting these various interests. Four key elements will be involved: academics, communities, the government, and business actors.

Farhan noted that the process cannot be achieved instantly. The Bandung City Government aims to formulate a mature management concept by 2027.

“It is impossible for everything to be completed in a short period. A foundation must first be established. Without a foundation, growth will not be collective but will occur in isolation,” he added.

For the initial stage, the focus of the redevelopment will span from Simpang Lima to Jalan Otista. Several streets that form part of or serve as wings to this area include Jalan Lembong, Jalan Braga, Jalan Cikapundung, Jalan Banceuy, Jalan Dalem Kaum, Jalan Otista, and Jalan Alkatiri.
