Bandung Resident Grows Cannabis on Home Rooftop Using Seeds Brought from California
Police have arrested a 55-year-old man, identified by the initials RA, for growing cannabis plants on the rooftop of his home in Ancol subdistrict, Regol district, Bandung, West Java. Police said the seeds he planted came from California.
“The seeds came from California, when the suspect was working in the USA,” Bandung Police Chief Dedi Supriyadi said at Regol Police Station, as reported by detikJabar on Saturday (10 October 2026).
RA’s activities came to light after Bandung Police uncovered 27 pots of cannabis plants at his residence. Officers found plants at various stages of growth, from newly sown seedlings to lush plants nearing harvest.
“He learned how to grow them from YouTube and had practised while in America,” Dedi said.
Bandung Police Narcotics Chief Oliestha Ageng Wicaksana added that RA smuggled the cannabis seeds in his trouser pocket when returning from the United States to Indonesia.
“In his trouser pocket. The seeds were brought from the USA and put in his pocket; they’re small, so they were safe there,” Oliestha said.
RA had also begun drying his harvest for his own consumption. He occasionally shared some with former colleagues who had also worked in the United States.
