Bandung Regent: Permanent Construction of 'Sekolah Rakyat' to Begin in October 2026

Bandung Regent Dadang Supriatna has confirmed that the construction of a permanent building for the Sekolah Rakyat in Lebakmuncang Village, Ciwidey District, will begin in October 2026 to expand educational access for poor and extremely poor families. Following a coordination meeting with Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta on Tuesday, the Regent stated that the Bandung Regency Government has prepared 7.6 hectares of land to support the construction of the boarding school. “Alhamdulillah, the Sekolah Rakyat in Bandung Regency has been pioneered since two years ago. We have prepared 7.6 hectares of land and, God willing, the construction of the permanent building will commence by the Ministry of Public Works in October 2026,” he said. He explained that the development is a result of synergy between the central and regional governments, with the Bandung Regency Government providing the land and the central government executing the permanent building construction through the Ministry of Public Works. The central government, via the Ministry of Social Affairs together with the Ministry of Public Works, has allocated a budget of approximately Rp200 billion for the construction of the Sekolah Rakyat as part of efforts to accelerate poverty alleviation through the education sector. He noted that all students will reside in dormitories and participate in a 24-hour educational programme that combines formal learning with character education to build quality human resources. “This school not only educates children academically but also shapes their character. The hope is that graduates of the Sekolah Rakyat will become agents of change for their families and communities,” he stated. Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf expressed his gratitude to the Bandung Regent for actively realising the President’s strategic programme through the implementation of the Sekolah Rakyat. He noted that Bandung Regency is one of the regions that has prepared land so that the school construction can be carried out promptly. He added that the Sekolah Rakyat is intended for children from poor and extremely poor families, while their parents are encouraged to participate in empowerment programmes to improve family welfare sustainably.
