The Bandung Regency Government has affirmed a strong commitment to building a golden generation with character through the implementation of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Schools are being encouraged to transform into a ‘second home’ that is safe, inclusive, and free from intimidation and illegal levies.

Regent of Bandung, Dadang Supriatna, stressed that the success of education is not solely measured by academic achievement, but also by the formation of students’ morals and personality. He made the remarks while opening the simultaneous MPLS at the regency level at SMP Negeri 3 Soreang on Monday (13/7).

‘Schools must become a comfortable second home. I emphasise to educators that there must be no bullying and no illegal levies in schools. Teachers are parents to the children at school and must be role models,’ Dadang said in a press statement.

According to Dadang, MPLS is not merely a formality for introducing the physical environment, but an initial foundation for students to instil the values of Pancasila, religious education, and a love for local culture as preparation for the Golden Indonesia 2045. The Bandung Regency Government also ensured that access to education for all levels of society remains a top priority.

Head of the Bandung Regency Education Office, Asep Kusumah, explained that this year’s New Student Admission (SPMB) process was conducted with a focus on principles of justice and equitable access. As a form of local government support for children from underprivileged families who are not accommodated in state schools, the regency launched a scholarship assistance programme.

‘We have prepared 5,000 scholarships for seventh-grade students attending private schools, with assistance valued at Rp1 million per student. This programme is the Regent’s commitment to ensure that no child in Bandung Regency drops out of school simply because they were not accepted into a state school,’ Asep explained.

In addition to character building, the Bandung Regency Government is also integrating educational programmes with the national agenda, namely the Free Nutritious Meal Programme. This step is taken to ensure the health quality and nutritional fulfilment of students are maintained, thereby improving concentration and learning quality in the classroom.

Regent Dadang Supriatna concluded his directives by inviting all stakeholders, from teachers and parents to the community, to collaborate in overseeing the education process. ‘We want to produce future leaders who are intelligent, have character, love regional culture, and possess good morals. This is a long-term investment for the region and the country,’ he concluded.
