Bandung Regency accelerates Citarum watershed sedimentation handling to combat flooding

The Bandung Regency Government in West Java is preparing to add three excavators to accelerate the handling of sedimentation and river maintenance in the Citarum River Basin area. Bandung Regent Dadang Supriatna stated on Wednesday that the addition of heavy equipment will be included in the budget revision and used jointly with the Citarum River Task Force to support handling in every sector. “We plan to purchase three excavators which will be proposed in the budget revision. Later, this equipment can be used together by the Citarum River Task Force to help resolve issues in every sector,” he said. According to him, the heavy equipment will be used not only for normalisation and dredging activities, but also for sustainable maintenance after the work is completed. The addition of heavy equipment comes amid efforts to reduce the impact of flooding in the South Bandung area, especially as data from the Bandung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency recorded more than 34,497 people affected by flooding due to the overflow of the Citarum River in December 2025. “After dredging and normalisation are completed, the government must also prepare equipment for sustainable maintenance. Thus, the condition of the river can be maintained and the potential for flooding can continue to be minimised,” he said. Dadang added that flood management requires collaboration between the regional government, the Citarum River Basin Organisation, the Citarum River Task Force, and pentahelix elements, so that the measures taken are directed and sustainable.
