Bandung readies 16 hectares for retention lake to control flooding

The Bandung Regency Government in West Java has set aside approximately 16 hectares of land for the construction of a retention lake as part of flood control efforts in the Citarum River Basin (DAS). Regency Head Dadang Supriatna stated on Wednesday that 11 hectares of the total retention lake land came from pentahelix element support in Tegalluar. “Regarding flood management, I previously proposed two locations for small reservoirs or retention lakes. Through the support of pentahelix elements, a businessperson prepared an 11-hectare plot in Tegalluar as a grant,” he said. He added that his administration had prepared five hectares in the Sukamana area, bringing the total to approximately 16 hectares for a flood-control water catchment zone. The land is planned to become a retention lake that will function to hold water runoff during periods of heavy rainfall in order to reduce flood risks in downstream areas of the Citarum River Basin. Flood management is also being strengthened through the acceleration of river normalisation by the Citarum River Basin Agency (BBWS Citarum), targeted to begin at the end of June, particularly in estuary areas. “BBWS has conveyed that, God willing, river normalisation will be carried out at the end of June, especially in the estuary area. The Citarum River Task Force will also coordinate technically in the field according to its work area,” he stated. Dadang stressed that all handling measures must be carried out in a coordinated manner so they do not proceed sporadically and deliver optimal impact on the ground. “The entire process must be discussed and coordinated between BBWS, the Task Force, and the Citarum River Task Force to ensure it proceeds in a directed manner,” he said.
