Bandung Prison: Graft Convict Dies of Heart Attack
The Kebonwaru Detention Centre in Bandung, West Java, confirmed that corruption convict Prasetyo, the former Head of the Sukabumi Regency Environmental Agency, died of a heart attack on Thursday morning. Head of Kebonwaru Detention Centre Mashuri Alwi stated that the inmate’s death occurred after he had received medical treatment at Santo Yusuf Hospital. “That is correct. He was pronounced dead,” Mashuri said. He explained that Prasetyo had been in good condition earlier in the morning. However, after going to the bathroom and then eating chicken porridge, he suddenly suffered a heart attack. Detention centre officers immediately took Prasetyo to Santo Yusuf Hospital for medical assistance. However, his life could not be saved and he was pronounced dead by a team of doctors. “This morning he was in good condition, then he went into the bathroom, then ate chicken porridge, and suddenly suffered a heart attack. We eventually took him to Santo Yusuf Hospital. He was pronounced dead by the doctors at Santo Yusuf Hospital,” Mashuri stated. According to him, Prasetyo had a history of heart disease which he had suffered from since serving his sentence. He added that since being transferred from Warungkiara Prison in Sukabumi to Kebonwaru Detention Centre in Bandung on 11 September 2025, the individual had regularly undergone health checks at the hospital. Mashuri added that Prasetyo’s body would subsequently be handed over to his family for burial. Prasetyo was a convict in a corruption case involving the maintenance of waste transport vehicles during his tenure as Head of the Sukabumi Regency Environmental Agency. In the Bandung District Court ruling Number 109/Pid.Sus-TPK/2025/PN Bdg, read out on 2 February 2026, he was sentenced to three years and six months in prison and a fine of Rp50 million, subsidiary to 50 days of confinement.
