Bandung Police Chief Takes Direct Action to Ease Traffic Congestion in Pacira Tourist Area
Dense vehicle traffic heading to the Pasirjambu, Ciwidey, and Rancabali (Pacira) tourist area prompted the Chief of Bandung City Police, Kombes Pol Aldi Subartono, to take direct action on the ground. He monitored and ensured that congestion relief efforts ran optimally amid the surge of tourists during the Lebaran holiday. He emphasised that his team had prepared several anticipatory measures, including situational traffic engineering and the placement of personnel at crucial points, while also urging drivers to comply with officers’ instructions and maintain order during their journeys. “We are taking direct action to ensure traffic keeps moving and total congestion does not occur. Adjustments are made situationally based on the volume of vehicles observed on the ground,” he stated in a written release on Tuesday (24/3/2026). This vehicle surge was triggered by the increased mobility of tourists taking advantage of the Lebaran holiday to visit the Pacira area, one of the favourite destinations in Bandung Regency. Due to the overwhelming number of visitors, the Bandung City Police Traffic Unit enforced situational traffic engineering in the form of one-way systems several times to alleviate the density. Based on observations at the location, the Police Chief was seen walking amid the dense traffic flow, dominated by two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles heading to the tourist destinations. His presence was to ensure that congestion relief efforts were maximised. Officers on the ground carried out manual traffic regulation, including prioritising vehicles from certain directions to speed up movement. Other personnel were also on standby at several vulnerable points to anticipate vehicle build-ups.
