Bandung city government has set a target for completing the selection process for a new Bandung Zoo manager by April 2026 to ensure the facility can operate optimally again.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the process of forming a selection team for the zoo’s new management involves various stakeholders including experts, the city government, provincial government, the prosecutor’s office, and the Ministry of Forestry.

“It must be completed by the end of April. This is stressing me out because the timeline is tight. We will see how the situation develops,” Farhan said in Bandung on Tuesday.

According to him, the formation of the selection team is a follow-up to a legal opinion from the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office.

The legal opinion recommends that the zoo be managed through a cooperation and utilisation arrangement with another party.

Farhan emphasised that this step is not solely a decision by the local government, but rather part of an effort to implement applicable legal provisions.

He ensured that the process of selecting a new zoo manager would be conducted through a transparent selection team mechanism in accordance with regulations.

Furthermore, Farhan stated that there are four main aspects that must be maintained in the reorganisation of Bandung Zoo: protecting water sources and protected areas, preserving land, protecting employees, and preserving the zoo’s historical heritage.

“These aspects must be maintained in the new concept for the zoo that will be implemented by the selection team,” he said.
