Bandung MSMEs Say Halal Certification Has Boosted Turnover
Around 150 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in West Java have received support to obtain mandatory halal certification. They have also been given digital skills training to make the most of discovery commerce, or proactively seeking out consumers.
Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, together with the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment and the Ministry of Industry, provided the certification support at an event in Bandung on Tuesday (20 October 2026). Mandatory halal certification for all products is due to take effect in 2028.
Vonny Susamto, Tokopedia and TikTok Shop Indonesia’s senior director, said halal certification helped increase consumer confidence. Digital content-creation skills, meanwhile, could boost sales and help build a brand.
“We want business owners to feel confident selling and to use the discovery commerce ecosystem to develop their businesses sustainably,” she said in an official statement received on Wednesday (21 October 2026). She said sellers could learn about halal certification through the Tokopedia and TikTok Shop Seller Education Centre.
Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar said that empowering MSMEs required concrete action. He welcomed the initiative for combining education on halal certification with digital marketing skills.
“This will make things easier for MSME operators,” he said.
