Bandung Mayor Reveals 14 Trees Stripped of Bark, Some Dead

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said that 14 trees on a number of roads in the city of Bandung had been stripped of their bark, with some dying as a result. His administration is currently working to restore the trees that still have a chance of survival.

“There are 14 trees that were stripped of bark. Two trees could not be saved, while the other 12 can still be rescued,” he said recently.

He said his team is repairing the trees’ cambium by wrapping it with a specific medium. In addition, special medicines are being applied to help the bark grow back.

“About three months. God willing, the bark will grow again within about three months,” he said.

He said his administration is still investigating the background behind the stripping of the trees’ bark.

“The intent and purpose are still being looked into by us. What is certain is that we are prioritising the recovery first. The motivation is also still unclear,” he said.

He said that if the motivation for stripping the bark was business-related, his administration would first investigate the matter further, including the motive.

Previously, a number of trees were cut down on several roads in Bandung. The perpetrators were found and fined.
