Bandung Mayor Partners with Brimob to Combat Street Robberies
BANDUNG — The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, has partnered with the West Java Regional Police Brimob Unit to collectively prevent and act against street robbery (begal) in Bandung. The two entities have established a joint anti-robbery team for the city.
“Yes, the anti-robbery team, because we are also seeing a tendency for an increase in violent cases involving robberies. Consequently, we will also undertake various forms of cooperation for joint patrols,” stated Mayor Farhan at the Bandung City Hall on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
He noted that the West Java Brimob Battalion A would be involved in maintaining the security and comfort of Bandung, which is widely known as a tourist destination. Furthermore, the administration aims to prevent the number of robbery cases from escalating.
“It is not an emergency yet, but while it hasn’t reached an emergency state, it is better that we prevent it now,” he said.
He mentioned receiving reports of robbery crimes every week. Therefore, Farhan stated that the presence of the anti-robbery team, alongside the Prabu team, would add strength in tackling these criminals.
“That is absolutely correct. I am concerned because of the current influence of alcoholic beverages. Recent robbery cases in Bandung occurred in areas such as Cisaranten Kidul and Ujung Berung,” he added.
