The Bandung City Government has ensured that all Regional Work Units (SKPD) are responding swiftly to the impacts of the disaster caused by extreme weather. This demonstrates the readiness of SKPD in facing emergency situations. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan conducted inspections at several points affected by hydrometeorological disasters due to extreme weather, including Microlibrary Bima on Jalan Bima, the Citepus 3 area in RW 10, Pajajaran Village, Cicendo Subdistrict, Jalan Cihapit, and SDN 023 Pajagalan, on Saturday (4/4). “The large number of fallen trees is a serious concern, considering that shade trees are part of Bandung City’s identity. We are facing an extraordinary event. The large trees that have long been the city’s characteristic have fallen in large numbers,” he stated. According to him, as a follow-up step, the Bandung City Government will immediately carry out rapid cross-departmental coordination to compile mitigation scenarios, including pruning trees that have the potential to fall. “We will carry out coordination quickly, involving technical departments such as housing, firefighting, transportation, road infrastructure, and agriculture to prepare preventive measures. This is done to minimise similar risks if extreme weather occurs again in the future,” he emphasised. Advisories and Compensation On that occasion, Farhan urged the public to increase vigilance against the potential for extreme weather that could still occur in the Bandung City area. He emphasised the importance of public caution, especially during heavy rain accompanied by strong winds. “In addition to advisories to the public, the city government is also preparing rapid mitigation steps, including clearing or tidying up trees that have the potential to fall. These steps will be carried out through cross-departmental coordination in a short time, to ensure readiness to face potential further disasters,” he added. On the other hand, he also expressed deep condolences over the loss of life in the incident. Everyone certainly hopes that this event will not happen again. As a form of care, the Bandung City Government will provide compensation to the families of the deceased victims. For the deceased victims, compensation of Rp50 million will be given to the families. “We hope that this assistance can alleviate the burden on the bereaved families, while also serving as a reinforcement for the Bandung City Government to continue improving disaster mitigation efforts in the future,” he emphasised.
