Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan, together with security forces, foiled an attempted mugging of a motorcyclist during an early morning patrol in the Binong area, Kiaracondong District, Bandung. Farhan said the incident occurred whilst he was conducting a mobile patrol around Bandung at 2 a.m. local time, a routine he has maintained for two consecutive weeks to observe public safety and order conditions firsthand. “I have been patrolling for two weeks in a row and found that there are indeed public order vulnerabilities in several parts of Bandung,” Farhan stated in Bandung on Tuesday. “In Binong, a motorbike was being surrounded by seven other motorbikes in an attempted mugging. When we arrived, it was successfully prevented,” he said. In addition to thwarting the crime, police officers managed to secure one suspect allegedly involved in the incident. “The Kiaracondong Police managed to arrest one perpetrator,” Farhan noted. He observed that street crime patterns currently tend to exploit the early morning hours when roads are quiet and residents are off guard. In response to these findings, the Bandung City Government will increase joint patrols with security forces in areas deemed prone to criminality. Farhan said coordination with the police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and local administrative units would be strengthened to maintain public safety. He also urged residents to heighten their vigilance and reduce non-essential activities late at night, particularly when travelling in the early hours.
