Bandung Mayor Foils Mugging Attempt During Early Morning Patrol

The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, alongside security personnel, thwarted an attempted robbery against a motorcyclist during an early morning patrol in the Binong area, Kiaracondong District, Bandung.

Farhan stated that the incident occurred while he was conducting patrols across Bandung at 02:00 WIB for two consecutive weeks to directly observe the state of public security and order.

“For two weeks in a row, I have been patrolling and have found facts that several points in Bandung City are indeed prone to disorder,” Farhan said in Bandung on Tuesday.

“In Binong, one motorcycle was being surrounded by seven other motorcycles in an attempt to be robbed. We managed to prevent it when we arrived,” he added.

In addition to thwarting the attack, police officers also managed to detain one suspect believed to be involved in the incident.

“The Kiaracondong Sector Police have successfully arrested one perpetrator,” said Farhan.

According to the Mayor, current street crime patterns tend to exploit the early morning hours when roads are quiet and the public is less vigilant.

Following these findings, the Bandung City Government will increase joint patrols with security forces in several areas identified as high-risk for crime.

Farhan stated that coordination with the police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and local regional authorities will continue to be strengthened to maintain public safety.

He also urged residents to increase their vigilance and reduce non-essential activities late at night, particularly when travelling during the early hours of the morning.
