Bandung Mayor Delivers 1.25-Tonne Presidential Sacrificial Cow
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan delivered a sacrificial cow from President Prabowo Subianto following Eid al-Adha prayers at Masjid Al-Ukhuwah on Wednesday, 27 May. The cow, weighing 1,250 kilograms or 1.25 tonnes, originated from Central Java and was raised in Ujungberung, Bandung.
Farhan stated, ‘Alhamdulillah, today after the Eid prayer at Masjid Al-Ukhuwah, we jointly delivered the sacrificial cow from the President of the Republic of Indonesia.’
He explained the cow was selected from six candidates after rigorous screening. ‘This is the one chosen from six we proposed,’ he said.
Farhan confirmed the President’s sacrificial cow was healthy and fit for slaughter after thorough veterinary checks. The breeder noted the animal is three years old and weighs 1,250 kilograms.
The cow, named ‘Sheva’, is scheduled to be slaughtered at Ciroyom Slaughterhouse (RPH), with its meat distributed to needy recipients in Bandung the same day.
Farhan clarified the name was not requested by the President but given by the breeders and field team. ‘President Prabowo tasked local government to find candidate cows. We submitted six, and this one was selected,’ he said.
Farhan added that Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder of the importance of sharing and sacrifice for the community. ‘God willing, it will be distributed properly to the needy,’ he stated.
Eid al-Adha prayers were conducted solemnly across Bandung. A total of 18,036 sacrificial animals were health-checked before Eid, all confirmed healthy and fit for slaughter. ‘Based on checks, 18,036 sacrificial animals were inspected ahead of this year’s Eid, with 65 per cent being sheep and goats,’ he noted.
Farhan assured all sacrificial animals met health standards and would be monitored until Tashriq days to ensure proper slaughter and distribution. He urged residents to reflect on gratitude and sacrifice during Eid al-Adha.
