Bandung Environmental Agency Targets Empty Temporary Waste Collection Sites on Takbiran Night
The Bandung City Environmental Agency (DLH) will implement a comprehensive waste management strategy during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah period. One of the measures includes optimising processing facilities and encouraging waste reduction at the source.
The Head of the Waste and Hazardous Waste Management Division of DLH Bandung City, Salman Faruq, explained that 19 waste processing facilities will continue to operate up to the day before Eid. This optimisation is an effort to reduce dependence on the Sarimukti Final Disposal Site (TPA), which is currently facing restricted quotas.
“In addition, DLH targets all Temporary Waste Collection Sites (TPS) to be empty on Takbiran night. To support this target, the public is urged not to dispose of waste at TPS from Eid day to H+2. We have issued a circular for the public to sort and process waste independently during that period,” he stated.
According to him, DLH is also focusing on market areas that see increased activity ahead of Eid. Market managers are asked to sort and process waste independently. Nevertheless, DLH remains ready to handle collection if there is excess capacity at the markets.
“If there is an overflow, we will assist with collection. However, source management remains the priority,” he added.
Deploying 211 Sanitation Personnel
Salman added that specifically on Eid day, DLH will deploy 211 permanent personnel to maintain cleanliness at various strategic points. This includes locations for Eid prayers in open spaces and crowded public cemeteries (TPU) visited by pilgrims.
Assignments during the holiday pose a particular challenge for sanitation workers. However, the commitment to keeping the city clean remains the top priority.
“Although personnel should be able to gather with their families, we are still assigning them to maintain Bandung’s cleanliness. Therefore, we invite all residents and tourists visiting Bandung during the Eid holiday to actively participate in keeping the city clean,” he said.
Salman noted that with the potential surge in tourist visits, collective awareness is seen as the key to maintaining the city’s comfort.
The agency is promoting mudik (homecoming) while keeping cleanliness in mind. Reduce waste, sort it, and together let’s keep Bandung comfortable and clean for everyone.
