The Bandung District Attorney’s Office (Kejari) has halted the investigation into alleged corruption involving the abuse of authority within the Bandung City Government for the 2025 period, a case that previously named Deputy Mayor Erwin and Bandung City DPRD member Rendiana Awangga as suspects.

The Head of the Bandung District Attorney’s Office, Abun Hasbullah, stated that following the implementation of the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), investigators scrutinised the possibility of illicit fund flows being received by the suspects. However, no such evidence has been uncovered to date.

“Following the implementation of the new KUHP and KUHAP, the investigative team applied the principle of caution, considering the spirit of the new codes in guaranteeing the rights of the suspects,” Abun said in Bandung on Wednesday. He added that the team sought to minimise procedural errors by investigating whether any actual fund flows were received, but these facts were not found.

Furthermore, he noted that following an exposure session held on 22 May, it was agreed to terminate the case to ensure legal certainty. “The final exposure session with leadership on 22 May concluded that the elements of the articles within the Anti-Corruption Law were not met in this case. For the sake of legal certainty, we agreed to halt the proceedings,” Abrade stated.

The case originated from an investigation order issued by the Head of the Bandung City District Attorney’s Office on 27 October 2025. During the investigation, the team examined 89 witnesses and three experts, and collected documentary and electronic evidence before naming Erwin and Rendiana Awangga as suspects on 9 December 2025. The suspects had previously filed a pretrial motion at the Bandung District Court, which was unsuccessful.

Abun emphasised that the termination of the case was not influenced by political factors or external pressure. “This termination contains no political elements. We are acting purely, without any pressure. We will proceed if the actions and the losses are indeed proven to be real,” he asserted.

With the cessation of the investigation, the suspect status of Erwin and Rendiana Awangga has been dropped. However, the Bandung District Attorney’s Office stated that the case could be reopened if new witnesses or evidence are discovered in the future. “This SP3 (termination of investigation) is not final; it can be reopened. We halted it for the sake of legal certainty,” Abun concluded.
