Bandung Deputy Mayor and DPRD Member Named Suspects in Corruption and Project Allocation Case, Yet to be Detained
Bandung’s Deputy Mayor Erwin and Rendiana Awangga, a member of the Bandung City DPRD, have been designated as suspects in a case of alleged corruption and abuse of power in December 2025. However, as of early March 2026, neither had been detained by the Bandung State Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Bandung).
Criminal law lecturer Leni Anggraeni of Uninus Bandung said that the suspects’ lack of detention by Kejari Kota Bandung raises suspicion among the public, especially given that corruption is an extraordinary crime.
“In my view, this case raises suspicion and questions among the public; the Kejari is not moving quickly enough,” she said on Thursday (5/3/2026).
However, she noted that the public should also understand the procedures being carried out by Kejari Kota Bandung. “Kejari should detain promptly in accordance with due process,” she added.
Meanwhile, Alex Akbar, head of the Intel Section at Kejari Kota Bandung, said the authorities are currently in the process of completing the case files for the corruption case involving the Bandung Deputy Mayor and Rendiana Awangga. Regarding detention, he admitted he had not yet received a reply from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) regarding the detention permission for the Deputy Mayor.
“In terms of details, we are still in the process of completing the case files,” he said.
Alex did not respond to questions about why Rendiana Awangga has not been detained.
Separately, Bandung DPRD chairman Asep Mulyadi said Rendiana Awangga remains a member of the Bandung DPRD because a court ruling is not yet final in the case.
“Because it is not final, he remains a member of the DPRD,” he said.
Under Government Regulation No. 12 of 2018, he noted, a DPRD member can be suspended temporarily for reasons including being a defendant. At present, his status remains that of a Bandung DPRD member.
“Under PP No. 12 of 2018, members can be temporarily suspended for reasons including being a defendant. Now his status is that of a DPRD member,” he said.
Separately, Beni Irwan, head of the Public Information Center at the Ministry of Home Affairs, said he will first check data related to Kejari Kota Bandung’s request to detain the Deputy Mayor. He had not yet responded on the Deputy Mayor’s status after being named a suspect.
“I am currently in a meeting with the minister; I will check the letter,” he said.
As previously reported, Bandung City Kejari Chief Irfan Wibowo said that the special criminal team at Kejari Kota Bandung has raised the status of the investigation from general to special in the corruption and abuse of power case at the Bandung City Government. The authorities have named two suspects.
“We have designated two suspects, one E, the active Bandung Deputy Mayor, based on the suspect determination letter dated 9 December 2025. The two suspects are RA, a Bandung DPRD member, based on the same date,” he said.
