The Bandung City Government in West Java is targeting the completion of overhead cable management across 85 roads by December 2026 as part of an effort to improve urban order and create a more structured environment. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the arrangement focuses on cutting down unlicensed overhead cables and those that do not comply with applicable regulations. In its implementation, the Bandung city administration continues to prioritise the precautionary principle, particularly in maintaining the stability of public services that rely on internet networks. Farhan confirmed that the process of migrating networks from cables to underground systems is being carried out in gradual and planned stages, with backup systems prepared beforehand before any cutting takes place. Internet for public services remains guaranteed. We ensure there will be no disruption because backup networks are already prepared before the cutting is done, he said. He noted that the government will not cut cables if the backup systems are not yet ready, in order to avoid disruptions to essential services such as banking, education, healthcare, civil registry, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, and the National Police. Separately, Farhan stressed that telecommunications operators bear full responsibility for services to their customers. Operators must be responsible to customers. If a disruption occurs, it must be addressed immediately, he said. According to him, citizens as customers also have the right to receive the best service, including choosing alternative providers if they experience disruptions that are not promptly handled. Customers have the right to seek alternative connections if the service received is not optimal, he added.
