Bandung — For the first time, Eid al-Fitr prayers will be held at Bandung City Hall Plaza. Bandung’s Mayor Muhammad Farhan announced that the prayer service will be combined with an open house for residents.

According to Farhan, holding Eid al-Fitr prayers at City Hall Plaza represents a new opportunity for Bandung City Government to create broader community engagement between the administration and residents.

“The Eid prayer will be held at City Hall along with an open house to strengthen ties with all residents,” Farhan said at the City Office Pavilion on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Previously, the City Hall Plaza area had never been used as a venue for Eid al-Fitr prayers. This year therefore marks the first occasion for Bandung City Government to hold the religious service at the city’s administrative centre.

The Eid al-Fitr prayer will be open to the public, allowing residents to attend and celebrate the occasion together. “The location is open, so anyone may come,” said Farhan.

Nevertheless, he confirmed that Eid al-Adha prayers will continue to be held at Al Ukhuwah Grand Mosque in Bandung, given the animal sacrifice rituals typically performed after the Eid al-Adha service.

Additionally, Farhan expressed hope that weather conditions on the day of the prayer would be favourable, given that the prayer location is in the open plaza at City Hall. “Hopefully the weather will be good,” he said.

Regarding the possibility of using City Hall as a vehicle parking facility for residents travelling during the Lebaran exodus, Farhan indicated this was still under consideration. Bandung City Government needs to ensure such a facility is not misused for commercial purposes. “We’ll see how the situation develops first. We need to make sure it doesn’t become a commercial car park,” he concluded.
