Bandung City Government Welcomes President's Plan to Reactivate Husein Sastranegara Airport
Bandung (ANTARA) - The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) has welcomed President Prabowo Subianto’s plan to reactivate Husein Sastranegara Airport for large-scale commercial flights. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that during his visit to the city on Monday, 25 May, President Prabowo instructed preparations for the reactivation. ‘We are eagerly awaiting this reactivation, as the Husein Airport has never been closed; however, commercial flight operations have been restricted to scheduled propeller aircraft for inter-Java routes,’ Farhan said in Bandung on Wednesday. Farhan explained that President Prabowo has ordered the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) and the Ministry of Defence (Kemenhan) to conduct a thorough assessment. ‘We aim to restore Husein Airport’s former glory, when in 2019 it handled 3.8 million passengers, including three million domestic and 800,000 international flights,’ he said. Farhan confirmed that the Bandung City Government will focus on improving surrounding accessibility infrastructure. The city also plans to upgrade road infrastructure, including optimising the toll exit route to Husein Sastranegara Airport via PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) to alleviate potential traffic congestion. Furthermore, Farhan noted that the current specifications of Husein Sastranegara Airport remain sufficient to accommodate medium-sized aircraft such as the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
