Bandung City Government Urges Civil Servants to Lead Waste Management Efforts

The Bandung City Government in West Java has urged civil servants (ASN) to become the vanguard in addressing waste management issues by strengthening public education and improving the quality of public services. Regional Secretary Iskandar Zulkarnain stated in Bandung on Monday that waste remains a major challenge requiring the involvement of all regional apparatus organisations (OPD), not just the Environmental Agency (DLH). “The unresolved issue is the waste problem. In several locations, people are still dumping rubbish directly into rivers. We must continue to educate the public not to litter,” he said. He assessed that the habit of dumping waste into rivers remains a serious problem as it impacts environmental cleanliness and increases the risk of flooding. “I believe government firmness is very important. As the Mayor often says, city cleanliness is our shared responsibility. All OPDs must work hand in hand,” he stated. Iskarnain requested that the DLH continue strengthening waste management and processing, while the Communication and Information Agency (Diskominfo) should intensify education through various communication channels to raise public awareness about protecting the environment. Additionally, he asked all government agencies to set an example in maintaining environmental cleanliness by making all Bandung city government buildings models of a clean culture for the community. “We must be present as problem solvers. Make government buildings examples of cleanliness for the public,” he said. On the occasion, he also reminded all civil servants to continuously enhance innovation and the quality of public services so that the government’s presence can provide solutions to various issues faced by the community. “I ask all government apparatus to increase innovation and provide the best service to the community,” Iskarnain said.
