The Bandung City Government (Pemkot) is continuing to accelerate infrastructure improvements at strategic points. Following the successful overhaul of the Jalan Asia Afrika area, aerial cables along Jalan Veteran and Jalan Tera will be cut this week.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan emphasised that the arrangement of underground utility networks (ducting) and the removal of aerial cables are crucial steps to beautify the city’s aesthetics while enhancing comfort and safety for residents.

“This week we will cut the aerial cables along the Jalan Veteran and Jalan Tera corridors, following the Asia Afrika area which has already been tidied up,” Farhan said in Bandung on Monday (22/6).

Farhan explained that several main road sections have been successfully completed, including Jalan Tamblong, Jalan Merdeka, and Jalan Lembong. Beyond focusing on aesthetics through utility arrangement, the city government is also prioritising basic infrastructure repairs such as roads, pavements, and drainage systems.

“This infrastructure is a primary need for the community that must be addressed gradually and sustainably,” he added.

Despite the massive overhaul, Farhan revealed that repairs on some strategic roads must be temporarily postponed. This is due to technical coordination with the construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.

The affected roads include Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Sudirman, and Jalan Otto Iskandardinata. Farhan apologised to the public for the delay in repairs on these routes.

“We must synchronise with the BRT project so that infrastructure work is not done twice. This is important to ensure that the regional budget is used efficiently and on target,” he explained.

In addition to utility and transportation issues, the Bandung City Government is currently finalising designs for flood and waterlogging management. Farhan is targeting a significant reduction in flood-prone points before the rainy season begins.

“This effort is urgent considering the rainy season is expected to start in about three months. We want to ensure that when the rains arrive, waterlogging points are greatly reduced so that residents’ mobility is not disrupted,” Farhan concluded.
