Bandung City Government Strengthens PHBS to Reduce Non-Communicable Diseases
The prevalence of non-communicable diseases must decrease by strengthening PHBS.
Bandung City (ANTARA) - The Bandung City Government, West Java, is strengthening the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) as a measure to reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in the community.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the trend of non-communicable diseases must be treated as a serious concern, even as the city still faces other challenges such as stunting and tuberculosis (TB).
“The prevalence of non-communicable diseases must decrease by strengthening PHBS,” said Mayor Farhan in a statement received in Bandung on Wednesday.
He said that health data held by the Bandung City Government indicates the importance of reinforcing healthy living patterns from school age.
“It must be addressed by conducting outreach on healthy lifestyles. Blood donation is the pinnacle. However, before that, we must lay very strong foundations. Both healthy living from management or control of salt, sugar, and fat content,” said Mayor Farhan.
He assessed that the education sector has a strategic role in building a culture of healthy living. Therefore, the Bandung City Government will encourage monitoring of the composition of food consumed by students, including in the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG).
“That is one of the most important things in the world of education with health, providing support to the education sector to ensure that the menus received in MBG or what is consumed by our school children have a balanced composition of salt and fat content,” said Farhan.
He explained that strengthening PHBS cannot be done partially. All health programmes, technology, and innovations in Bandung City must be integrated and oriented towards the needs of the community.
“So that all programmes, all technology or innovations in Bandung City are integrated and centred for the benefit of the Bandung community,” said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan.
